When the internet first started and in the early days, it was a general consensus that meeting up with someone you have met on the internet was probably dangerous. Partly it was because of the stories that went around your women who met her sweet boyfriend on the internet and the boyfriend turned out to be a creepy psychopath in person. This was coupled with other tales of hopeful singles being scammed out of their money or fell to identity theft.
Well, the creeps and scammers are still around but thank God that today we are more cyber savvy. Being more internet savvy compared to ten years ago does not mean the rules of dating have changed. You still need to be cautious on the first date. Always make sure you meet in a public place and inform someone where you will be going and tell them exactly who you are meeting. It does not hurt to be on the safety side even though you are a hundred percent confident that you will be safe. Suggest this to your partner as a light-hearted joke as both of you need to take this precaution.
Do not bunk together
Should it be that you are travelling a distance to meet your potential partner, make sure that you make your own prior hotel arrangements? You also need to arrange your own transportation from the airport. Doing things in this way will make you a lot safer and you will avoid placing yourself in an awkward situation. Suppose you find that you do not get on with your date a lot later on, you will have somewhere to escape to. If you are having someone come visit you, never offer them to stay with you in the initial meetings.
Relax and enjoy yourself
Meeting a potential date can be a nerve racking thing especially that it is someone you met online. It is known for some people to shut down and become unbearably shy. Usually the reason for this is that the person you will be meeting knows a lot more about you compared to a typical first date. Thankfully a lot of people who have experienced this say that as soon as they in this situation, they shyness goes away very quickly and they get back to enjoying the date. So you can get though the initial minutes then you will alright through the date.
